PANEL 1: How emerging business enterprises in China & India are reshaping their economies.

Emerging Business Enterprises (EBEs) have had an influential and dynamic role in the impressive economic growth of India and China in recent times.  There are, however, key differences and variations in the respective stories; with the Chinese EBEs attaining a relatively stronger role in the manufacturing economy of their country, as well as recognition for its global impact. The panel will present the key lessons that Indian stakeholders in the MSME sector could imbibe from the Chinese EBE environment.

11.45 am PANEL 2: Strengthening Emerging Business Enterprise Clusters & Hubs: Challenges & Policy Imperatives

Entrepreneurs as well policymakers readily acknowledge the benefits of creating industrial agglomerations for EBEs.  Clusters and hubs allow sharing of infrastructure and other resources, assimilation of knowledge and innovation, and cooperative competition that enables EBEs to collectively become businesses-of-scale.  India has just over 400 clusters for EBEs engaged in industrial manufacturing and services.  This panel discussion will review the key experience of these clusters and present the key imperatives that are required to enable such clusters and hubs to become providers of world class capacities and efficiencies for Indian EBEs

PANEL 3: Empowering & Integrating Indian and UK Emerging Business Enterprises.

A key challenge for EBEs in India is to access global markets and acquire global skills.  A key strategy for this is collective and enterprise-level international linkages between Indian EBEs and their global peers.   The IEBC 2008 presents the United Kingdom as its partner country to showcase the potential of partnership between EBEs of both the countries.

The scope of partnerships between the two countries is underlined by the growing strength of trade and 2-way investment ties between the two countries. Our panel will delineate the mutual opportunities for EBEs of the two countries; evaluate fund raising opportunities for Indian EBEs for their UK Business as envisioned by leading entrepreneurs, senior corporate leaders, and official representative who are engaged in business partnerships-and-alliances between the two countries.

PANEL 4: Financing Strategies for EBE Competitiveness in a Global Economy.

A huge majority of EBEs remain unable to realize their full enterprise performance due to weak and inadequate access to capital resources. The need to improve timely credit flows to EBEs is well recognized but largely unfulfilled.  Financial institutions in particular have to be persuaded to adopt supportive risk-capital funding approaches and prudent but easily compliable procedures.  There is also need to develop new financial institutions and instruments that specifically focused on the capital requirements of EBEs.  These financial strategies should be inspired by the aim of making Indian EBEs globally competitive.

Our panel will aim to create common ground between representatives of key financial institutions and entrepreneurs on this issue, with a view to devise an Action Plan which will be followed up as an IEBC Initiative.

PANEL 5:  Managing and Fostering IT Innovation: The Growth Paradigm

All business enterprises are increasingly confronted with the shortening of the business cycles within which they have to perform and deliver.  This is especially true for EBEs, who also have organic potential to recognize business opportunities early and address such opportunities in very quick time. However, this potential needs to be unlocked and supported by business practices related to technology acquisition and innovation, marketing and information services.

Our Panel will identify and present best practices that have catalytic utility for EBEs in enhancing their growth potential and achieving business resilience through IT innovation.
